Biography

Self-taught from 1959 to 1964, he experimented with oil painting before abandoning traditional techniques in favour of installations made using stones, fustian, magnets and cables, which give concrete form to physical-dynamic situations (including stasis, balance, tension and gravity), also focusing on the conceptual extremes of energy and inertia. From 1967 he was a member of the Arte Povera group. He has taken part in many international biennials, including the Venice Biennale in 1990, when he was awarded the Golden Lion for painting.
