Biography

A painter, engraver and lithographer. He moved to Milan in 1801, where he studied at the Brera and worked as an assistant designer until 1810, when he was forced by illness to work on easel paintings and verres fixés (oil on silk mounted on glass). His real or invented neo-medieval views of historic buildings and places in various parts of Italy were highly appreciated, and much imitated too. In 1833 Charles Albert appointed him as his "genre painter".
