Biography

A painter. He studied at Brera under G. Bertini and then settled permanently in Milan. He started out with historical paintings, and then shifted to social issues, which he examined in depth after taking up the divisionist technique in the 1890s, when he came into contact with the critic Grubicy de Dragon and made friends with G. Pellizza. His many interiors of the Pio Albergo Trivulzio in Milan ("The Last Days", Milan, Galleria d'Arte Moderna; "One Christmas!, Turin", GAM) became universally famous.
